Trail Ride...

...but not on Reina!

I went out to ride with Nick today, as he needed a few horses ridden on the trail to see how they'd act. He runs a trail riding business and doesn't want to put beginners up on something they won't be able to handle. So I got to ride Jude, a bay TB mare about 16.2. She's thicker built than Reina, and VERY fuzzy. Like. Her coat is 2-3 inches long, not even kidding!

So even though she's not as beautiful or sweet as my baby, she was a very good girl. (In fact, I'm now plotting as to how I'm going to get Reina to be that responsive to me!) She tried to pull one over on me a few times when we were heading out, trying to spin back towards the barn 'cause she's quite herdbound, but I didn't let her and after 3-4 tries she cut it out and behaved herself. It was really fun; it was so peaceful and nice out in the woods!

But that's about all I did today that's of any interest to horses. I just got home from my physics exam and am quite braindead. But I figured I'd write a little blurb to commemorate the amazing time I had out on the trail today. I felt so relaxed and peaceful afterwards! I love horses.

Oh, and Reina got a new friend today. A big palomino paint mare that was trailered in so Nick could train it. Reina bosses this one around; it's quite funny to watch the herd dynamics! I gave Rei a peppermint before I left, but didn't have time to do more because I had to rush home to finish studying & head to my exam. Her hind leg was still a bit puffy, but she was walking and running around perfectly well, so it at least doesn't seem to be getting worse. In fact, I think the swelling was down a bit. *crosses fingers!*

She kept watching me over the fence, all indignant that I was riding another mare. Well, if your leg would get better and you'd start responding better...! As if it's MY fault SHE kicked a fence. Yeesh, mares!

  1. Mares are silly! This will just give her even more motivation to be extra good next time you ride :)

  2. Indeed they are! She was extra, extra good today; I think she missed me and really didn't like me paying attention to that other horse. ;)
